BASICS

OPEN
This class will guide all levels of students (beginners and up) through a well-rounded practice including seated meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), and a flowing asana practice exploring variations of Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutations), a wide range of standing and seated poses, and beginning arm balances and inversions.
ASANA SERIES (Tuesdays 7:30 p.m.) - A flow style Open Level class with a focus on a different asana each week. This series introduces students to a deeper understanding of the postures and the sequencing that helps to open and prepare for them. Student input for posture suggestions is encouraged in advance!
WEEKDAY LUNCH BUFFET - An assortment of Open Level classes in different yoga styles from BYS instructors teaching what they love best - offering a well rounded variety of classes to choose from with something for every palate!
Kripalu (Mondays 12 p.m.) - The focus of Kripalu (cree* PAU* loo) Yoga is on developing nonjudgmental awareness or Witness Consciousness. This allows for inner stillness in yoga practice, meditation, daily life and amidst adverse life circumstances. As Witness Consciousess develops, so does one's ability to consciously choose how to act on thoughts, feelings and emotions. Classes typically include seated meditations, asana posture work and pranayama (breath control).
Yoga For Cyclists (Thursdays 12 p.m.) - A yoga class specifically tailored to meet the needs of cyclists, it is designed to rebalance and integrate the effects of cycling on the body while also enhancing mind/body awareness. Focus will be placed on hip and leg opening, and developing arm and core strength. This is an excellent series for cyclists and non-cyclists alike. Beginners are welcome.

LEVEL 2

Seated meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation) variations, core strengthening, and a wide range of standing and seated postures will be included. Previous yoga experience recommended.

KUNDALINI
Kundalini yoga is an ancient yoga discipline designed to heal the body, mind, and soul by using specific sets of exercises to open the seven Chakras. This practice utilizes asana (physical exercises), pranayama (breathing exercises), mantras, mudras (hand positions), and meditation to achieve a state of personal balance. Kundalini yoga is an invigorating practice that leaves one feeling energized and healed. While it is easy to do and accessible for most levels of students, it is not a gentle practice. Be prepared to move and be moved!

CHAKRA FLOW/KUNDALINI
These classes are designed to open and balance 7 main centers known as Chakras, or energy “wheels” within the body. The Chakras relate to different physical and emotional aspects of ourselves and when they are out of balance we can experience stress, aches, and pains as signals of the imbalance. Each class will focus on different Chakras to help bring the body, mind, and spirit to alignment. The classes include variations of Sun Salutations and uplifting Kundalini Yoga exercises and meditations to bring you a place of wholeness. This is a fun and flowing class for all levels.

YIN
Suitable for most levels of students, Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues (ligaments, bones, and joints) of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine through relaxation and meditation in seated postures. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat and the lengthening/contracting of our muscles.

RESTORATIVE
This all levels restorative practice will include "active relaxation" - supporting the body with blankets, blocks, and other props to support postures which are held for several minutes. This will alternatively stimulate and relax the body allowing it to move towards balance. This practice is very beneficial to health, can reduce the effects of stress-related disease, and will leave you nourished and well rested.
